145.17 Repeater to Shut Down

License Trustee Ken, W8SMK notifies us:

“Yep, after 35 years of having this thing in my back yard I have

decided that it’s time to turn it off!”

Well, since this isn’t the April edition of the newsletter, I guess I should tell you the rest: Since this repeater is supposed to be in Delaware and provide coverage in the City, I have always been looking for a new location that wouldn’t be close enough to the 145.29 machine to cause the intermod problem we had in the past. I have found it and as of today we have a signed lease agreement with the tower owner. He has an almost “earthquake proof” equipment building and an auto-start generator on the property. Perfect! So………as soon as I can get the antenna installed, the machine will be turned off, but only long enough to move it to its new home. To maintain coverage to the South, I will be relocating what’s now the “North receiver” to my tower. That frees up our antenna space on the big tower for future uses, which we already have in the planning stages. (Editor’s note: sorry if it caused you concern- and as of our publication date the new antenna has been mounted at the new location!)

Here it Comes! OQP for 2014

Contester or not, this is a date you need to remember: August 23, 23014.  That’s the date for this year’s Ohio QSO Party!  DELARA has consistently won the club category for this event, and we have no intention of letting go now!! This is a civilized event- running only 12 hours from noon until midnight (local time). All stations may operate the full 12 hours, CW and SSB on 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters. The OQP sponsors (Mad River Radio Club) have some great suggestions on their rules page: http://www.ohqp.org/adminRules.htm and pretty much any DELARA member can help you figure out a plan!  It’s great to be in a contest where YOU are the target for hams both inside and outside the state of Ohio! There are multi-op stations, rovers and mobiles, and stations operating from EOC’s.  Use of spotting nets and skimmers is actually encouraged (!) to increase contest participation. Ohio stations send a sequential serial number starting with 001, and their county.  Non ohio stations send a number and their state. Ohio stations also try to work all 49 other states (as multipliers) and the 11 provinces in Canada, 88 Ohio counties and 1 DX station. This is just a big wrapped-up package of FUN! Get your stations ready now!
