Joe’s Place ..er.. Palace

Joe Papworth, K8MP Sorry folks, no April Fools article this year. Instead, I am announcing…

The first ever EMPY awards!!!!

This could be yours. Read on. The entertainment award season is over. (I hope) I get them all confused, probably because I rarely watch them. There are Grammy awards, Emmy awards, Oscar awards, Indie awards, and a bunch more. I’m fairly certain there are no EMPY awards. I’m about to change that. As with any award system, worthy people will be left off the winner’s stand. Since I haven’t spent time with everyone, I can only make judgements based on those that I have interacted with. Perhaps there will be a “Second Ever” EMPY awards sometime in the future (Don’t count on it) There are awards in 15 categories. (Ummm, make that 16) Some awards were a tie and given to more than one person. There was also individuals who won more than one EMPY. Without further ado, let’s get started. The Sponge award: It goes to the person who soaks up more knowledge, faster, than is humanly possible. And the winners are… Drum roll…..Ed, K8MEJ and Joe, AA8TA. The “I can do anything” award: It goes to the person who seems to be able to do anything in their field of expertise. And the winners are… Drum roll… John, W8NX and George, WD8KNC. The Bull Dog award: It goes to the person who never gives up on a project, even when there’s “No hope”. And the winners are… Drum roll… Bob, W8ERD and Ed, K8MEJ. Bob is also the only Delara member that actually has an award named after him. And that award is… The “Every club needs a Bob” award: It goes to the person who best exemplifies what it takes to be Bob. And the winner is… Drum roll… Stan, N8BHL (Because every club needs a Bob and a Stan) The “Git ‘er done” award: It goes to the person who can be counted on to “Git ‘er done.” And the winners are… Drum roll…..Dale, W8KTQ and Donn, K8AOK. The “I’ve got this” award: It goes to the person who really “Does have this” when the rest of us don’t. And the winners are… Drum roll….. Tim, NJ8B and Craig, W8CR. The “Just tell me where and when” award: It goes to the person who is at every ARES event. And the winners are… Drum roll….. Joe, N8ZGL, Joe, N8DRZ, and Paul, KD8UUA The “Why can’t Field Day be every weekend” award: It goes to the person who has FD withdrawal symptoms from July until June. And the winners are… Drum roll…. Dale, W8KTQ and Stan, N8BHL. The “I’m gonna work the most DX the fastest” award: It goes to the person that says it and then does it. And the winner is… Drum roll….. Wally, W8WLK. The “Chef Extraordinaire” award: It goes to the person who not only makes the best grub, but also loves doing it. And the winner is… Drum roll….. Tim, K8TAT. The “You didn’t build that, I built it” award” It goes to the person who makes something, seemingly from nothing. And the winners are… Drum roll… Dave, WB2CWJ and Craig, W8CR. The “Hamfest attendance” award: It goes to the person who attends every Hamfest within reasonable driving distance. And the winner is… Drum roll…. Steve, K8SWH. The “Makin’ Bacon” award: It goes to the person who makes sure Delara is making new lots of new Hams. And the winners are… Drum roll…. Gary, KE8O and Sandy, N8YS. The “I’ll set it up, you folks use it” award: It goes to the person who sets up the handiest things for the whole club to use. And the winner is… Drum roll…. Gary, KE8O And finally, the “Lifetime achievement” award: It goes to the person who has faithfully performed his tasks since the very beginning. And the winner is… Drum roll…..Ken, W8SMK. Well, that’s it for April. Congrats to the winners. Feel free to enlarge and print off your EMPE award. I’m sure it’s suitable for framing somewhere in the world. I hope to see you all at the meeting but if not, then at Joe’s Place in May. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Based on a recent visit to AC8VM’s QTH, I had to make a 16th award category just for Randy. It’s the “Most antennas per square foot” award. Again, congrats to the winners. The rest of us applaud you all.
