Hey gals and guys, guess what is coming up?
Laundry day? No, I was thinking a little longer-term than that. Hamvention? Closer, but I was thinking of something else. It's Field Day! This year, Field Day is Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25. The exact times are 2:00 p.m. Saturday to 2:00 p.m. Sunday (EDT). This year, our Field Day will be at the Delaware Red Cross. A highlight of the weekend is our annual picnic Saturday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. under the expert care of Tim, K8TAT.We hope that you can join us that weekend. Our plans are to set up on Friday, the 23rd, and, perhaps, others days beforehand. Please watch the email reflector for details. Help is always appreciated whether you can spend only a little time or a lot.Once Field Day starts, we plan to run two SSB and two CW stations continuously for the whole 24 hours. Right now we have a core team set up for those stations but more operators would be welcome to give the core members a break. We're not going to set up a schedule, but if contesting floats your boat and you would like to help out, show up or let me know sometime in the weeks before FD.We also will have a GOTA (Get On The Air) station which is designed to allow non-hams or hams with limited (or no) HF experience to make some contacts with the help of a more experienced person nearby. We hope to try some digital contacts and, maybe, find that elusive bird in the sky, otherwise known as a satellite.Field Day is taken pretty seriously by our club, but while scoring a lot of points is great, fellowship is the most important thing. This is obviously a major event for DELARA members but non-members and non-hams are very welcome to come out and see what is going on and participate if they would like to. It used to be that Field Day was how many non-hams got interested in amateur radio. This also allows family members and friends see how truly nuts we are.Mark your calendars and watch this space. It's going to be busy as the time approaches.TU es 73 de Joe AA8TAOut tentative layoutPending testing to detect any interference, thisis the potential layout for our Field Day.
