and we mean, really old!The value of our hobby’s tools seems never to go away. and for many, a big enjoyment comes from rebuilding and operating the radios that made our hobby great. DELARA News contributor Steve Fetter, WA8UEG, recently sent an example. I finally finished a number of radio projects. Restored my Harvey Wells TBS50 & matching VFO (worth more than the transmitter) and built a power supply for it, restored a Heathkit MR-1 and a HP23 power supply for it AND totally restored a HQ140X. The HQ140X I completely disassembled cleaned the chassis, dials, replaced the lamps & tubes that were weak along with all new capacitors and resistors and cleaning of all the pots and switches. It truly looks and operates like it just came out of the box, not a scratch or smudge on it. Did mostly the same thing with the TBS50C.I have made a few contacts with the TBS50/HQ140X and a lot with the DX60/HG10 & MR-1 although I have been using the HQ140X with both the TBS50C & DX60 as it is a superior receiver compared to the MR-1.(click for larger view)

“Hey, I haven’t heard from you…”
What great words to check up on someone you haven’t heard from in a while! You might be very surprised that the simple act of reaching out during these cold, isolating winter days could make a huge difference in someone’s life. Has it been a while since you heard from “X”? Don’t wait- maybe a simple phone call would keep you in touch. Maybe there’s a small act you could do for that person who might be unable to on his or her own. We’re far more than a club, we are very much a family…and there’s no harm in checking up on each other!
