What “Day” is it? It seems that every day someone has something to celebrate. states that it tracks nearly 1,500 “National Days”. One “Day”, “Sweetest Day” had it's beginning in Cleveland, Ohio in October 1921. According to an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Oct, 8, 1922, a committee of 12 confectioners headed by C.C. Hartzell distributed 20,000 boxes of candy to newsboys, orphans, old folks and the poor in in Cleveland. Other Cities jumped on the bandwagon and proclaimed days and even weeks for celebration. “Sweetest Day” has become much like Valentine's Day, in giving romantic themed candies and cards. It is celebrated on the third Saturday in October. *(When I was a kid I asked my Dad, “They have “Mother's Day” and “Father's Day”, why don't they have “Kid's Day” ?
