James and Byron Kilbourne

James Kilbourne (October 19,1770 - April 9, 1850) was an American surveyor, clergyman and politician from Ohio. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut and moved to Ohio in 1803 and founded Worthington. In 1805 he was appointed United States surveyor of public lands. He served as colonel during the War of 1812 and was a trustee of Ohio University from 1804 – 1820 . Kilbourne was elected to the United States House of Representatives for two terms serving 1813 – 1817. He also served on the Ohio House of Representatives in 1823, 1824, 1838 and 1839. James was the father of Byron Kilbourne, (1801 -1870) one of three men who in 1813, founded present day Milwaukee, Wisconsin and served two terms as mayor. In 1845, Byron founded what was to become the City of West Bend and in 1857, founded Kilbourne City which became the City of Wisconsin Dells. Kilbourne, in Delaware County as well as Worthington Kilbourne Schools are named in honor of James Kilbourne. Re: Wikipedia
