Contest Reports
Well the inverted L at the ARC seems to be working pretty good. I participated in the SP for
about 3 hours on and off. Everything seemed to work OK. I thought of something though, it
would be easy to work multi operator using the FT2000RC emulation since more than one
person can log in at a time. At any rate here is my score:

RAC, eh
The RAC contest is a really fun way to wrap up the year. I don’t know how long I
participated; it wasn’t more than 6 hours, I don’t think:
Band QSOs Pts Sec Pt/Q
3.5 23 142 2 6.2
7 79 404 5 5.1
14 27 152 7 5.6
21 2 12 1 6.0
Total 131 710 15 5.4
Score : 10,650
All CW, of course. I don’t think I worked anybody locally. Saturday morning, despite the K
index sitting at 3, I made a few contacts with Europe. Friday evening, 40 meters had some
QSB and 80 meters was kind of noisy Friday and Saturday. Whoever was in Prince Edward
Island was running pretty slow and had tons of stations calling which slowed him down even
more. I did work VY1AAA in Wednesday’s CWT when W1VE was operating remotely. Did not
hear them this weekend.
No top-band antenna here, although I tried to transmit but was probably putting just a watt
or two out and I was afraid of blowing up what I did have.
I was surprised to work JD1BMH in Ogasawara yesterday evening on 20 meters. For some
reason, it is hard for me to be heard on 20 but he came right back to me. I’m not sure
where that place is, I assume some island around Japan. It is a bit more than a couple of
stone throws away from here.
I see the guy does not use LoTW so I have a dilemma. Sending a card will involve some coin
with postage, green stamps and card checker fees. Guess I won’t bother; not likely that I’ll
be sniffing any nice awards before propagation picks back up. If one believes some of the
stuff out there, it might not come back very much.
Guess it’s time to scrape the rust off of the straight key for tomorrow night/Tuesday.

More parks on the air
The Radio Amateurs of Canada and Parks
Canada have recently announced the Canadian
National Parks on the Air (CNPOTA) operating
event. The CNPOTA event will run from 00:00
UTC January 1, 2019 until 23:59 UTC December
31, 2019. Its goals are to:
1. To promote Canada’s National Parks and
National Historic Sites to the world.
2. To promote Amateur Radio portable operation
creating activity on the air from as many of the
officially-listed Parks Canada Administrated units
as possible. Also we need people from their
home QTH to chase these activations.
All licensed radio amateurs are invited to
participate. For more information on the event,
including rules and a list of frequently-asked
questions, visit the CNPOTA website. Once the
event gets underway, the website will have news
about activations, a leader board, and a a gallery
of photos taken at Canadian national parks.
