Somebody (?)

This story is abridged, soon to be a major motion picture and on the New York Times best seller list for twenty weeks running. The Pond... It was 1:00 am, there was a knock at the door, who could it be? I was still up so I went over and peeked out the window and there stood two men in suits. I cautiously opened the door and both men held out DEA cred packs. One was named Priest and the other Storyteller. The one named Priest spoke first, "Excuse me sir, but there has been some unusual activity in your neighborhood and I was wondering if we could ask you some questions?" "Sure" I replied and they came into the room and looked around. "The people that live behind you, how well do you know them?" Priest asked. "You mean the people that live on the other side of our woods with the wild loud late night parties?" I asked. "Those would be the ones sir." Priest replied. " I don't know them at all and have never met them why, what did they do?" I asked. He ignored my question. Then Storyteller spoke up "tell him, it's his neighborhood, he should know." After a few seconds of silence Priest began. "We have had the property under surveillance for the last two years. We think there is an international drug ring being run from that property. They only communicate by shortwave radio using a very sophisticated cipher program we have recently cracked. Tonight, eight drug kingpins from several parts of the world arrived to have a meeting. And then they disappeared into thin air." "Wow, I had no idea." was all I could think to say. Then Storyteller, who had wandered to the back of the room and was looking out of the picture window into the back yard, said, "there must be twenty vehicles all with their lights flashing including two big SWAT vans and an ambulance on the other side of your woods and the trees are so thick I can't see anything." I said, "it's not solid trees though, about a year and a half ago I rented an excavator and dug a pond in the middle of it and stocked it. It took forever to fill it with water. I like to go back there and just sit and feed the fish. Several times I have seen deer swimming in it." Priest spoke up "Wow, it must be beautiful...but at exactly midnight and just before we were going to raid the place, our drone broke its video link and the drone operator lost total control. He said the drone was still up there because he could tell from his instruments if it had moved but it was still locked into hover mode exactly where he put it." "Weird," I said. "We really needed that drone to give us intel so we postponed the raid. Exactly one half hour later the drone came back on line like nothing happened. The Commander gave the GO signal and we rushed the place...and it was deserted." Priest said. "Where'd they go?" I asked. "No idea." was his reply. "We had all exits covered and they didn't get by us." Shortly thereafter they apologized for the interruption and left. The next morning. "You're up early." My wife said as she was looking out of the basement window admiring my array of shortwave antennas and then glanced at all the Ham radio gear that was sitting there...all silent. "I didn't hear you come down," I said. "You took down that ugly parabolic monstrosity that tracked satellites," she said. "I don't need it anymore" I replied. She looked over my shoulder just as I opened a folder to delete some software on my computer. She said, "I've never seen that folder before...Enigma V Decoder and Drone Command and Control...what are they for?" "Just something I don't need anymore" I replied as I deleted them. "I thought I heard you talking to someone last night. Was someone here?" she asked. "There were two policemen here looking for some guys from the house behind us," I said. " They didn't search the place did they?" She asked. "They looked around upstairs a little but then left," I replied. "They must have believed me." She asked "You told them you had no idea where they were?" "Yes, but I had my fingers crossed." "You had your fingers crossed...do you know where they are?" "Well, yeah." I replied. "How come they didn't find them?" she asked. " I replied. "They never searched the pond."
