DELARANEWS
DELARA NEWS is the monthly publication of the Delaware Amateur Radio Association, Delaware OH. June, 2019 VOL 38 Number 6

Welcome

This is the official newsletter of a great ham radio club! Our DELARA family appreciates what you’re doing with the hobby! Why not take a few minutes and write out what interests you in our hobby! We have room for your article always! Send it to Stan [at] standi.com by the end of the month.

The Prez’s Shack

I hope that by now that you have had a chance to play with the new toys that you found at Hamvention. We have not heard what the attendance was this year, but after three years, it looks like the Dayton ARA and Greene County officials are doing a pretty good job at putting on that major show. I am amazed that the whole thing is not run by a professional event management company but by volunteers. Trying to organize hundreds of volunteers and dealing with all the many big and little things that come up is very hard. I talked to one such volunteer who shared a little of what goes on that the public never sees – there is a lot of little things that have to come together and the crew there seems to get it done year in and year out. With Hamvention over, we turn to our major holiday: Field Day. It used to be that a lot of people were introduced to ham radio through Field Day or, if they were fairly new, got a good introduction to HF operation at a Field Day site. This can still happen and it is something that we hope to offer to anybody who is new or interested in ham radio. We are planning to designate a couple of our stations to chase points but we are also wanting to help people see what radio operation is all about. Field Day is very focused on fellowship and socialization so it is a good time to meet local people, ask questions and get to know each other more. If that is not enough, there is the big club dinner on Saturday afternoon and aromas of the food being prepared should help guide you to the big event. We need you to stop by. We want operators and we want visitors. Kids and family members are welcome; we can get them on the air and show them the fun that we have the rest of the year. All you need to do is come by the Delaware Red Cross (see address below) on June 22 and 23. We’ll have some last-minute discussions at our next regular meeting so we hope to see you there. So please join us on Wednesday, June 19, 7:30 p.m. at the Delaware Red Cross, 380 Hills- Miller Rd. As always, our events are open to everybody so drop by. 73, Joe, AA8TA

Next up?

Coming right up us DELARA’s premier event! Field Day 2019 will be here before you know it. More details on the Field Day page, but here’s the skinny: We operate from the Red Cross as class “F” (EOC station) with four stations. Bob, W8ERD, puts together a stellar GOTA (Get on the Air) station with lots of information. Your goal, of course, is to participate! We need YOU to operate a station. It’s that simple. And the timing? No matter when you operate, plan to be at the Red Cross Saturday evening around dinner for another installment of Chef Tim’s wonderful Hog Roast- prepared right on site with perfection. DELARA Field Day is number one about our fellowship- our ham radio family getting together for another wonderful weekend.
