Welcome

This is the official newsletter of a great ham radio club! Our DELARA family appreciates what you’re doing with the hobby! Why not take a few minutes and write out what interests you in our hobby! We have room for your article always! Send it to Stan [at] standi.com by the end of the month.

The Prez’s Shack

A couple of things are coming up which, I hope, will warrant serious attention by our members, for sure, and for anybody who is interested. For members, we are to hold a business meeting in November as the club’s bylaws require. The only real business we normally have are officer elections. We have three elected officers: the president, vice-president and secretary/treasurer. In many clubs, the secretary and treasurer positions tend to be long-term positions and sometimes are not even subject to votes. This is because record-keeping and financial details are not easily passed around on a frequent basis. In contrast, many clubs adopt a slightly different approach to the president and vice-president positions. When these positions open up, clubs tend to look around and ask who has not been a member for very long, why not stick them with the responsibility? Regardless of how the officer positions are viewed, they are the leaders of the club and are charged with the vision of what the club is and how that vision should be executed. For this reason, instead of just putting naïve people in officer positions, finding those who might make good leaders for the club should be considered. Maybe those people are already officers or maybe somebody else has a vision who might make a good officer. November is the time to make that selection. We also will hold our annual give-away night. This is an opportunity to pass on ham radio stuff that could use a new home. As the name of the event implies, this is a give-away, not a bidding or auction event. Stuff should be ham radio related and, if somebody wants to claim it, it is theirs. The giver may not get anything in return except extra room or a claim on somebody else’s junque. Will somebody give away a K3? Probably not, but there might be some useful things available so bring an empty trunk and find out. As always, members and visitors and always welcome to stop by and we hope that you do. We will see you on Wednesday, November 20, 7:30 p.m., at the Delaware Red Cross, 380 Hills-Miller Rd. CUL, Joe, AA8TA

Boatanchor Night!

It’s a tradition! Every fall, DELARA members scrape through the lost and hidden shelves to bring first class radio junque (er, treasures!) to exchange or give away. The rules are simple: 1. Has to be somewhat radio/computer related 2. You bring it to give away 3. If nobody wants it, YOU take it back home. (There is a dumpster on premises) 4. Items will be on display, and presented with a “show and tell” 5. If you see something you simply can’t live without- speak up!

Pre-Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner!

Information next page - come early to the meeting and join the feast!
