DELARANEWS

Contesting

A Biggie coming up!

By the time you read this, it’ll be very close! One of the biggest activities of DELARA (second to Field Day) is the Ohio QSO Party! This year’s QSO party is set for August 22. It runs from noon to midnight. YOU can help DELARA rack up our score by operating!! Check recent emails about a potential AREAL ASSAULT on Ohio - the ultimate rover! While the details aren’t firm (so don’t hold him to it) here’s the concept from Greg, NZ8R: I have decided to give it a try in my Mooney, while based at OSU, I will move it to the hanger in Delaware for the weekend. I am thinking flights will be straight out from Delaware and back for each leg. North, South, East, West etc. Who would like to join and support the team? The team will have these support needs (not all are ‘in the airplane’ needs): 1. Determine a flight path in one or two hour chunks 2. Build and put together a self contained set of radios 3. Build an operating plan 4. Choose who is in the plane per leg 5. Gather all the data to support the operating plan (internet access in the air is pretty sketchy) 6. What else? Lots of questions on details and tactics will start from this….hold those for now. It could be a ton o fun and I am happy to give this a try for as many 2 hour legs as we are up for. I am ok to donate the plane for four hours. Fuel and engine costs are $60/hr. Happy to take this off the list and build our own group (or leave here) since it will be fun. Lets decide if its an on the list or off the list first. Greg Now how much fun would that be!! I (N8BHL) am planning to operate from the ARC station (there’s a new EOC category that’s just hanging there for us to win!!) and we’ll need a couple more operators for that effort as well! We could mount two stations, I believe, one cw one ssb. Let’s get on this one with vigor!!
