The Prez’s Shack

Just like to thank everyone whom came out to the after Holidays DELARA party on Saturday, Jan 11. Seems to be plenty to eat, and good company all around, so see you all in the NEW YEAR. So what the DELARA officers really do! Surely you could go out to the website (K8ES.org) under downloads and read the complete bylaws, to see what the duties of the officers are supposed to be, or you can just sit back and read my remediation of what I see the officers really doing. - President aka: "Prez" Per the bylaws the Prez presides at all meetings of DELARA, and conducts the same accordingly to the rules adopted, or basically keep the meetings running smoothly and keep others from conducting their own meetings being disruptive. He shall enforce due observations of the bylaws, decide all questions of order, and sign all official documents that are to be adopted by DELARA if any arise, and no other documents unless approved by the 3 officers of DELARA. Also perform all customary duties pertaining to the office of the president's position, like looking for folks that have announcements for the group, getting folks to volunteer to lead the Monday evening nets, each and every month. - Vice -President aka: VP Per the bylaws the VP will assume all duties of the Prez in their absence and that's it. But we all know that the VP does more than that, which isn't written in the bylaws and has been done this way since my existence in DELARA some 19 years prior. The VP is also known as the program director who sets-up and brings us all the wonderful topics/programs to each DELARA meeting, being ham radio related or not, instead of all business type meetings which some find boring. Some may fall asleep, but of course some do that with the wonderful programs we have anyways, LOL. So if you have ideals for new topics/programs, send them to the VP for consideration - you just might find your topic present in the months fore coming. -Secretary/Treasurer aka: Treasurer Per the bylaws this officer duties were originally handled by (2) officers, but ever since my existence in DELARA some 19 years prior, these (2) officer positions have been (1) one officer, which seems to be working, so it's not broke let's not try to fix it; it's hard enough to get 3 officers, let alone 4. The Secretary portion of this office, completes a sign in sheet for each DELARA meeting, processes all membership applications submitted for new\existing members, for which you can pay your dues via PAYPAL on the K8ES.org website now, keeps the bylaws of DELARA , also known as the "association" in the said bylaws and shall cause all amendments, changes, and additions to be as noted there on and shall permit the same to be consulted by the membership of DELARA if so requested. The treasurer portion of this office, receives all monies paid to the "association" and keeps accurate account records of all monies received and expended. He shall pay all bills as seemed of acceptable value, and if value is too high to seek prior authorization from the other officers, and sometimes the members of DELARA also. 73, Tim, K8TAT

2020 - new decade

for DELARA

Well, we made it through another ten years and we’ve stepped across the line into the 2020 decade. (OK, nitpik that it doesn’t really start until 2021!) What do we have to show for it? We have a vibrant club, with a broad approach to the hobby of amateur radio. Our club has developed a number of ad-hoc groups displaying interest in a particular aspect of radio- we have the Monday Night Net, of course. We now have a Wednesday night net for MESH devotees. Thursday (first of the month) is ARES and emergency radio with training on the second Thursday. Many Friday’s, the ten meter band gets put to use for the 10-meter net. Most mornings, a contingent of our stalwarts can be heard on 75 meters. And there’s a growing group specializing in portable and remote operating, with some pretty fancy antenna development to go along. For aspiring hams, Gary and Sandy have a well-established program for administering exams with a number of club members as volunteers. Of course, there is the ‘Primo’ club operating and fellowship event of Field Day. Sounds like fun! But all of that, to me, is secondary. The best and most important part of DELARA is the personal friendships, the relationships that have developed and carried through many years! For instance, the best part of the Holiday Dinner was watching all the conversations going on. Nobody was by themselves, it seemed everyone was busily engaged in conversation! It dates back to the beginning of our club- gathering to just celebrate our friendships within our great hobby! This is something to guard and preserve- a tradition we certainly must maintain to keep our radio family strong through the coming decade!
