The Prez’s Shack

There’s work to be done!

There’s an element to any large organization that is always there… there is always work to be done! The great thing about DELARA is whenever there’s work, we have a really large turnout of eager people to get it done. We’re going to have an opportunity on July 18 to multi-task and get a lot done! We’ve rented the manlift for that day because we have some antenna stuff to get done. Here’s a picture: N9AUG Residence We need to drop the tilt-over tower and remove all antennas, etc. (We may be able to use the tower and some hardware at the Red Cross) Red Cross: We need to replace the triband beam on the tower. Re-arrange and secure our ‘stuff’ in the basement The N9AUG FT-5000 has OLED problems- dial displays are dim. There’s a kit available, but it takes dismantling the front panel. Any of you high-level techies willing to take this on? W8ERD Residence Bob has some more tower work to be done W8KTQ Needs lamp replaced on barn peak With Larry’s gift we have a major contest-grade rig to add to our collection! We plan to put the old Kenwood TS-120 on the shelf and use the N8OB Kenwood 590 as primarily a digital rig. The 950 will still be available across the Internet for your use. We do have a Heathkit amp to put in line somewhere just for the option. In other news, we hope to see you at the meeting! -Stan, N8BHL Vice President

Has COVID

increased your

ham radio use?

When we were all put in our home jails as COVID-19 came calling, the emotional strain of being divided from our families (kids and grandkids) was a serious threat. Ham Radio took a step back into the spotlight as a great means of keeping in contact. For DELARA, that brought Mike, W9MDC, to the lead as he launched a nightly radio net aimed at keeping people in touch with each other, and checking on their well being. Mike has been steadfast at managing the net every evening- and that doesn’t go unnoticed for those who check in each night. Big round of applause and a hearty “Thank you!!” to Mike for all the hard work he puts into these nets!
