Field Day 2020

hey! We did good! The Field Day 2020 scores were posted on Scott’s Section Journal site, and we “done good!” A more complete breakdown will be on the Field Day page, but the official K8ES 3A operation was fifth nationwide in a very difficult category! We went nostalgic for this one- operating from Dale’s barn as the club had operated in the past. Even the pet turkey was heartily involved! Overall, there were 14 listings for our club in the results. I was under the impression that all club scores (with individual operators from homes, etc., were to be clumped together for a complete club score. That didn’t show on the list, but then it could be coming out in the official publications. At any rate, ~excellent job~ to all who operated! Now- can we just get back to normal for next year?? Our November “Boatanchor Night” meeting is cancelled this year. (Yeah, it is 2020 after all!) We will not have the in-person meeting, instead we will ALL meet on Zoom for the business meeting and more! Ken will send out the usual Zoom invitation- but remember we will NOT have the in-person section of the meeting this month. December there is no regular meeting scheduled. One of the more important functions of the November meeting is that it serves as our official annual meeting. Ken reviews the books, and we all put our heads together to see whom we can con into … er elect to serve as a club officer. So it’s an important meeting! I hope you’ve been able to finish your fall chores so your antennas and such are read to go through this winter’s ham season! Contests have already started, and the digital practice nets are going hot and heavy two nights a week! It all adds up to an ‘anticipatory’ year in our sport-- that is, the cycle will come back some day, right??? Stan, N8BHL VP DELARA

Friendship

“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit,” - Albert Schweitzer Ham radio is the original social media- launched on common terms of science, experimentation, conversation and that magical element of sending a signal around the world. These days, conversation can take a back seat to technology…Internet, computers, cellphones and more have minimized the importance of just holding a conversation with a friend. With the technology that permeates our daily lives we should pay attention to what is arguably still the most important part of our hobby- conversation! Getting to know people, and caring about them. I believe DELARA is exceptional in that aspect, with a sense of family and friendship a very important part of our gatherings. From Mike, W8MDC dedicating every evening to our ‘informal’ evening COVID net to Bob, organizing the digital gang, to any number of others who work to keep our friendships going- please accept our thanks!
