DELARANEWS
DELARA NEWS is the monthly publication of the Delaware Amateur Radio Association, Delaware OH. April 2021 VOL 40 Number 4

Welcome

This is the official newsletter of a great ham radio club! Our DELARA family appreciates what you’re doing with the hobby! FAIR WARNING: This is the ~April~ edition. Why not take a few minutes and write out what interests you in our hobby! We have room for your article always! Send it to Stan [at] standi.com by the end of the month.

The Prez’s Shack

It's official... we will resume in-person meetings at the ARC starting May 19th! After a year away, it will be great to see everyone again. And for those interested, we will also gather for dinner before the meeting. If you would like to suggest a location, let me know. For those not ready or able to meet in-person, we will make every effort to use Zoom to keep you connected. You won't be left out. And speaking of Zoom, our club account is expanded with additional admins. If you would like to use Zoom for any club business, your club officers can set you up with a scheduled call. We are looking to add access for committee chairs as well, so please make the most of this paid club resource. As mentioned last month, our 7:30 Informal Net turned 1 year old on March 24th. Starting on April 10th, this will become a self-directed net. Rather than having a designated Net Control take check-ins, we will use an open round-robin approach. Just announce your call and name, and someone will bring you into the net - and let you know who you should pass off to next. Everyone contributes to running it, which can be more fun as well. With a little practice, I think it will work great. So stop in on the 145.17 repeater any evening at 7:30 and join the fun. Our training committee run by Joe K8MP continues to plan out the pre-field day training event / radio boot camp. Look for a full update on that next month. Lastly, I want to thank Larry AC8YE for volunteering to take on the club Treasurer and Secretary position. He was appointed by the Executive Committee to serve out the remainder of the 2021 term. He stepped forward when the club needed a boost, and I really appreciate it. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

Looking Up!

It’s beginning to look at lot like maybe someday we’ll have ‘normal’ back. At least there’s some good news as far as DELARA is concerned. First, as Mike reports (look left!) we’re going to be stepping back to “in person” meetings. We’ll start with the hybrid (assuming we can figure out how Ken did the Zoom magic) but we’ll be able to actually be in the same room together! Second, Field Day plans are progressing, and we will be running our operation from the Red Cross (only without the hog roast… miss you, Tim!) Third, Gary and company will be able to resume testing in June! So there are lots of things coming that will put our club members back together! And not a moment too soon!!
