The Prez’s Shack

Another year in the log book! As 2021 comes to a close, it is interesting to look back to remember where we’ve been, and look forward to where we are going. At the start of the year, we were ‘hopeful that 2021 would see some return-to-normal’ including in-person meetings and activities. Well spring came, and in-person meetings resumed in May. It seems like we have been running full speed ahead since then with our Antenna Build / Radio Boot Camp, Field Day, Ohio QSO Party, resumption of VE Testing, and support of ARES events including Iron Man and the Veteran’s Day Parade. We capped things off with an amazing turnout at our last meeting of the year in November. It’s so good to be back with everyone, and enjoying this great hobby together. We had a banner year for membership, with 20+ new members joining. Several of those folks joined following one of our VE Testing sessions with a free membership. Others found us after searching for a club to help them get started in the hobby. Either way, we are glad to have so many great people join us. On the administrative side of things, we renewed our agreement with the Red Cross to maintain our club station for another 3 years. We also changed insurance carriers at a tremendous cost savings to the club. Looking forward, it seems 2022 is poised for a great start. We have a Holiday Party and VE Testing Session on January 8th, followed by our first Kit Build Event (constructing end-fed half- wave antennas for 80m-10m) on January 15th. We are looking to schedule another Build Event in February to make a roll-up 2m/440 portable or emergency antenna. So thanks to those who helped move the club forward in 2021. And best wishes to everyone in the New Year! 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

DELARA

2022 - here we come! There are so many facets of the amateur radio hobby! And the facets of DELARA continue to grow and multiply! First and most important, WELCOME! to our new members, we are sincere in hoping you’ll consider us “home” as you continue your amateur radio activities! And just within the club there are so many. We have a solid group of contesters, some really experienced HF and DX operators, some computer and digital guru’s, technical wizards, Satellite chasers, even a strong public service association with Delaware County ARES. And that’s only what I can recall at present- there is so much more. For 2022 we hope to present speakers and programs that will be of interest to all- and the best programs are YOURS! We have had the warmest response to presentations from our own group- and this is your invitation to do just that. You do not have to be an expert, just able to convey what interests you! Please consider and volunteer!

Lots of things to do!

DELARA members are bacck in the swing! Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of activities in which many of our members have participated! Over the summer in addition to Field Day (always a big draw) the Boot Camp brought a large number out for a fun day. Ironman fielded 29 ham operators from three counties to help keep that event running. The latest adventures have included a large turnout for the Ohio QSO Party, putting the ARC stations back on the air. And in mid- September came the All Horse Parade, complete with Clydesdales. And of course the nightly radio nets, the digital group, and ARES training are there to keep us interacting. We send big thanks out to all who take their time and effort to have fun and serve our community! DELARA is an active club- and if you’re a newer member to the hobby, these activities are a great way to make some serious friendships! That has always been the best part of DELARA - friendships built around a common interest!
