Hamvention Canceled 2021

Back in November, Hamvention announced their plans to hold a hamfest in 2021. That was, of course, the appropriate thing to do. These things don’t happen overnight, and even though I was a bit skeptical that it would actually happen, it’s good to be optimistic. Unfortunately, Hamvention just announced that the 2021 Hamvention would be canceled. This from their website: Unfortunately, several setbacks in the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic make necessary the difficult decision to cancel Hamvention 2021. Hundreds of volunteers have been working to do everything necessary to bring this Hamvention to the many amateur radio enthusiasts and vendors who support the Dayton Hamvention. Vaccine distribution both in the United States and around the world is lagging behind what was planned. In addition, the emergence of a more communicable form of the COVID-19 virus increases the potential for further public health problems in the next few months. We make this difficult decision for the safety of our guests and vendors. Those who had their tickets, inside booths or flea market spaces deferred last year will be deferred again. Those who purchased 2021 tickets, inside booths or flea market spaces will also be deferred. If you desire a refund instead please email tickets@hamvention.org and we will contact you. Stay tuned for information about a QSO party for the 2021 Hamvention weekend. We are looking forward to the 2022 Hamvention!!! Executive Committee, Dayton Hamvention 2021 I was actually feeling a bit optimistic about going this year. Our county health department has started a waiting list for the vaccine just this morning, and bright and early (well, early at least, winter here is a dull, gray affair), I got my name on the list. I was feeling hopeful that I’d be vaccinated by the time Hamvention rolled around. I’m still looking forward to the vaccine, but will have to look even further into the future for the next Hamvention. Thanks to everyone in the Hamvention organization for keeping the world’s premiere amateur radio event going. -Dan Romanchik, KB6NU
posted by AA8RK Here are some pictures of the dual J-Pole I was talking about during last night's net. Took a about 1.5 hours to build and tune once I had all of the parts in. I still need to do a few things to it (weather proofing, longer/better quality feedline, mount on roof. So far, really happy with it's performance on 2M, I haven't tested much on 70cm. SWR at 145 Mhz is about 1.23 Currently, I have it stuck in the ground, but plan to put it on my roof as my property is kind of in a "bowl". J-poles are great- but why? Prez Mike, W8MDC, looked up some more information.
