DELARANEWS
DELARA NEWS is the monthly publication of the Delaware Amateur Radio Association, Delaware OH. June2021 VOL 40 Number 6

Welcome

This is the official newsletter of a great ham radio club! Our DELARA family appreciates what you’re doing with the hobby! Why not take a few minutes and write out what interests you in our hobby! We have room for your article always! Send it to Stan [at] standi.com by the end of the month.

The Prez’s Shack

We’re back in full swing! We held our first in-person meeting this year on May 19th. A great time was had by all. It was really nice to see all the smiling faces after so long. Congratulations to our door-prize winners… Frank Sudal & Family - Technician Study Guide Grant, KD8UNQ - General Study Guide Paul, KD8UUA - AE Study Guide Rob, KE8QPI - Wireless Ear Buds Dale, W8KTQ - 600-foot spools of poly-rope Bob, W8ERD - 600-foot spools of poly-rope Shawn, KE8IZX - 1 Year Free DELARA Membership for 2022 And wouldn’t you know it – Dale and Bob graciously donated back their prizes to support the DELARA Boot Camp. Thank you both. We conducted our first VE testing on June 5th. Plans are finalized for the DELARA Boot Camp training event on June 12th. We’ll hold our June meeting on the 16th, and then comes the big kahuna, Field Day, on the 26th/27th. Sprinkle in ARES training and I don’t remember spending so much time at the ARC in any one month. We are definitely back in full swing – and it feels great! I’m really looking forward to Field Day this year, as it will be my first chance to see the ‘big dogs’ in action at Red Cross. If you are new to the hobby, don’t let that hold you back. Come out and operate if you can. Help us put a couple of contacts in the log. If nothing else, stop by just to see the stations in action and say hi. Hope to see you again soon. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

Our “Family”

Last month we talked about the unofficial mission of DELARA. Something that’s perhaps even more important is the sense of community we have… our “radio family”. We obviously share at least one common interest in radio, but as the Bootcamp attested, and as Field Day will show, it’s the relationships we all have that are most impressive. Much as we all did “back in the day”, we help each other, and all it takes is a call. Climb a tower? Sure- how soon? Need help with a station setup? Be right there! Someone mentions a medical challenge, and we all pitch in. And so it goes. I hope we never lose this element in the Delaware Amateur Radio Association! Radios and technology constantly change. Friendships formed over those items can last a lifetime!
