Welcome

This is the official newsletter of a great ham radio club! Our DELARA family appreciates what you’re doing with the hobby! Why not take a few minutes and write out what interests you in our hobby! We have room for your article always! Send it to Stan [at] standi.com by the end of the month.

The Prez’s Shack

What an exciting time for the club! Our first in-person meeting for 2021 will be at 7:30 on May 19th at the ARC. For those ready to return, I am looking forward to seeing you. For those not ready or able to meet in-person, we will make every effort to use Zoom to keep you connected. You won't be left out. It has been a long time since we've been together in-person. Records show we canceled the meeting on March 18th, 2020. Fortunately, we were still able to meet by Zoom. It worked so well, that on April 29th we started holding weekly zoom calls. We've covered so many topics, but I'll always remember those hand drawn diagrams on station grounding from Ken, W8SMK/SK. Next, we will hold our first VE testing event of the year on June 5th. It will be great to be back in the business of minting new hams. Thanks to Gary, KE8O for organizing the testing events. Our DELARA Boot Camp training event is now fimly scheduled for June 12th. See e-mails from Training Committee chair Joe K8MP for the parts you may want to buy / bring to the antenna- build portion of the training. We'll go over those details at our May meeting. Special thanks to Tom, N4HAI for putting all our scribbled notes and ideas into an well organized online document. That really helped get things moving. Lastly, we have Field Day 2021 on June 26th / 27th! Look for more updates soon from our Field Day Coordinator Stan, N8BHL. I hope you are as excited as I am about these upcoming events. It's a great time to be a Ham. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

Our Mission

I make no claim to stating this as an “official” mission statement of DELARA. I would guess at some point back in our founding days there was one articulated. But it’s easy to track our movement, pick up from that what the primary direction has become. And it’s something increasingly rare to be appreciated! I am sure that each club has its own particular “flavor”… shaped by the makeup of the membership, the normal meetings and activities. For DELARA, there has been a wide variety of interests represented from within our hobby- DX, HF, repeaters, nets, ham TV, early computing, now digital communication and more. But the great thing about DELARA is the environment that supersedes those parts- and that is one of personal relationship. Friendship. A caring about each other that goes much further than just our mutual hobby. Mike brought that into focus with our daily nets, and it’s so good to listen in the evenings even now to hear our people connect. So from that, I deduce our mission, the prime motivation that makes this club great, is simply to care for each other. You can’t ask more than that. -ed
