Welcome

This is the official newsletter of a great ham radio club! Our DELARA family appreciates what you’re doing with the hobby! Why not take a few minutes and write out what interests you in our hobby! We have room for your article always! Send it to Stan [at] standi.com by the end of the month.

The Prez’s Shack

End Fed Antennas! At the urging of Bob, W8ERD, DELARA is working up a “building project” that will result in an end-fed, multi-band antenna! Shipping a bulk order is possible, so it’s now up to those interested to select what your project should be. I'm proposing we each pick from the 4 options below. This gives a mix of kits (including or excluding 80m band), and choice of the wire type between cheapest (so called 'experimental wire' that will probably stretch over time) or most expensive (Copper/Stainless Steel). Personally, I recommend putting in a few more dollars to get quality wire. I'm going with the Copper/Stainless Steel wire option. If you can help us gather the specific kit choice from each person, that would help. I can take the payment as cash at our next DELARA meeting on Nov 17th, or via paypal or Chase Quick Pay to my e-mail address mrdietcoke@hotmail.com So far here’s our list: KE8RTF N4HAI KD8UUA W8MDC W8ERD KE8JYZ AC8VM Dave Long These folks already have their antenna kits: KE8QPI N8OB These folks will help out technically during the workshop: AC8YE W8ERD These folks will come to the workshop just to learn: AD8HS 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

DELARA

Earmark of a thriving club It seems there is always something new going on in our DELARA family! We’ve had several more operators express interest in the club station. In fact, Larry, AC8YE, has held a couple sessions to Elmer new operators! If you’re a paid up member, you are encouraged to use the station! Some kit building is on the horizon! It looks like there will be some new antennas in the near future- work is being done to bulk order antenna construction kits for a building session. Other aspects of amateur radio in Delaware County are also thriving. The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is closely associated with DELARA, and a number of newer hams have become steadfast members, bringing our roles up to just under 20 members. As ARES, and as DELARA members, we have provided assistance this month to the Veteran’s Day Parade. The best way to become even more satisfied with your membership in DELARA is to get more involved!

DELARAActive

Lots of things to do!

DELARA members are bacck in the swing! Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of activities in which many of our members have participated! Over the summer in addition to Field Day (always a big draw) the Boot Camp brought a large number out for a fun day. Ironman fielded 29 ham operators from three counties to help keep that event running. The latest adventures have included a large turnout for the Ohio QSO Party, putting the ARC stations back on the air. And in mid- September came the All Horse Parade, complete with Clydesdales. And of course the nightly radio nets, the digital group, and ARES training are there to keep us interacting. We send big thanks out to all who take their time and effort to have fun and serve our community! DELARA is an active club- and if you’re a newer member to the hobby, these activities are a great way to make some serious friendships! That has always been the best part of DELARA - friendships built around a common interest!
