The Prez’s Shack

Party Time, Excellent!

On August 28th, we participated in the Ohio QSO Party from the Red Cross. Thanks to everyone who helped setup our stations, operated phone and CW, fed the troops, or just stopped in to support the cause! Over the course of the day, we had around 30 people on-site including visitors. It was great to see several new members operating. Congratulations to Rob KE8QPI and Alex N8QL for their DX contact to Latvia! It is always fun to see our seasoned operators at work. However, Craig W8CR may have been overly seasoned - and cooked! We hit 91 degrees under full sun. That Camo Ham really needs A/C. And yes, we definitely have an ongoing problem with CW interference to our other stations. Field day primarily saw interference from the 40CW station. This time the 80CW station was also causing interference. This gave us more data points on the issue. I remain hopeful that we can narrow down the problem and make significant improvements for future events. Whether we operate multi-station contest events at the ARC, or not, we do need to make sure the radio room can support emergency operations. We'll schedule some testing at the ARC this fall, with hopes of isolating the issue. Thanks to Shawn KE8IZX for feeding the troops, George WD8KNC for his computer networking help, Dale W8KTQ for training new operators, Craig W8CR and Stan N8BHL for bringing their trailers and gear. And special thanks to Dale, W8KTQ for all he does to keep the station running. His efforts are appreciated by all. As a reminder, our September 15th meeting will be a field trip to the Delaware EOC. On October 20th, we have a special treat at the Red Cross. Ed K8MEJ will bringing his solar powered RV / mobile station for a quick tour and presentation. That just leaves our Boat Anchor / Business Meeting on November 17th. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

Lots of things to do!

DELARA members are bacck in the swing! Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of activities in which many of our members have participated! Over the summer in addition to Field Day (always a big draw) the Boot Camp brought a large number out for a fun day. Ironman fielded 29 ham operators from three counties to help keep that event running. The latest adventures have included a large turnout for the Ohio QSO Party, putting the ARC stations back on the air. And in mid-September came the All Horse Parade, complete with Clydesdales. And of course the nightly radio nets, the digital group, and ARES training are there to keep us interacting. We send big thanks out to all who take their time and effort to have fun and serve our community! DELARA is an active club- and if you’re a newer member to the hobby, these activities are a great way to make some serious friendships! That has always been the best part of DELARA - friendships built around a common interest!
