The Prez’s Shack

And the Winner Is...

All the logs were entered, the computer began crunching the numbers, the room lights dimmed - then out came the result… The Madison County Amateur Radio Club has won the 2022 MUD QSO Party Trophy! DELARA made a good showing, but the Madison club really worked the event. The total points by club were: Madison 347, Union 58, Delaware 250. On April 13th I attended the MCARC monthly meeting to hand out participation certificates and present the MUD Trophy to President Tony NO8F on behalf of the club. Madison County will hold the trophy until next year when it goes up for grabs in the 2023 MUD event. I’m already working on my own plans to score big next year. I’ll be passing out participation certificates at our DELARA monthly meeting on April 20th. There will be two special certificates for Highest Point Award and Master Operator Awards within DELARA. Thanks to all the MUD'ers who participated. Special thanks to Joe K8MP (Mud Police) for auditing the scoring process. I hope you made some new contacts (and maybe a new friend or two) during the event. The Madison and Union County clubs are amazing, and I hope we find other ways to work together in the future. Well as they say, ‘there is always next year’. So let’s get those VHF antennas up higher next spring. Other business... On March 26th, Bob W8ERD held an Antenna Build Party at the ARC. Fun was had by all. You can read more about the event in this newsletter. Thanks again to Bob for organizing the event, and to everyone who helped. Lastly, we are finalizing plans now for a spring work party at the ARC to take care of critical tower and antenna maintenance. I hope to share some updates on club station improvements next month. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

DELCO Weather I’m not sure we need a weather net for the post-Easter snowstorm, but we’re ready. Not an April blizzard, but interesting. The DELCO Weather net was officially commenced, but not in the way we expected. We had intended a check-in, readiness net the morning of the Tornado Siren Test. But that was cancelled because of the threat of real severe weather. We watched the system develop all day- NCS stations exchanging information and keeping up on dispatches from the Severe Storms Forecast Center (SPC). We were even ready to go as it looked like we were going to get a thunderstorm cell across the county. Then… Nothing. We waited for a while and the longer we waited the more it was assured the system had passed us over. Shut down the radio, computers and coffee. Stepped out of the shack and - boom - the alarms went off for a Thunderstorm Warning for the very eastern edge of the county. Trudging back to the shack, we quickly announced the net and went to .29. As a good weather net which has people in the right place at the right time, we had Larry, AC8YE at Centerburg who was watching the cell. Not five minutes later, the warning was cancelled. So our first net lasted maybe five minutes, took in two reports, and closed. But we were on the air! -Stan, N8BHL

It’s a work party - April 30 ! Read the ARC page for details!

Lots of things to do!

DELARA members are bacck in the swing! Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of activities in which many of our members have participated! Over the summer in addition to Field Day (always a big draw) the Boot Camp brought a large number out for a fun day. Ironman fielded 29 ham operators from three counties to help keep that event running. The latest adventures have included a large turnout for the Ohio QSO Party, putting the ARC stations back on the air. And in mid- September came the All Horse Parade, complete with Clydesdales. And of course the nightly radio nets, the digital group, and ARES training are there to keep us interacting. We send big thanks out to all who take their time and effort to have fun and serve our community! DELARA is an active club- and if you’re a newer member to the hobby, these activities are a great way to make some serious friendships! That has always been the best part of DELARA - friendships built around a common interest!
