The Prez’s Shack

Happy New Year! Before I get started, I want to say thanks to Joe K8MP for pulling together our Post Holidays- Holiday Party. We had a good turnout, great food, and plenty of Diet Coke (thanks to Steve K8SWH). It was nice to meet spouses, and of course enjoy some Ham with other Hams. To kick off the New Year on a positive note, we held our first VE testing session of 2022 on Jan 8th. Thanks to Gary KE8O for all the hard work in scheduling and executing those testing sessions. It was exciting to see so many new Technicians enter the hobby (and also several Amateur Extra upgrades). I think we snagged a couple of new members as well. I’m looking forward to several events this year. Unfortunately, our End-Fed Half Wave Antenna Build event has been placed on temporary hold, but we hope to reschedule shortly. Once that is done, we will follow-up with a Roll-Up 2m/440 J-Pole antenna build event. Other kit build events could follow. I’ve been reaching out to neighboring clubs in Madison and Union counties to see if we can join forces and sponsor a spring radio event. Several DELARA members are also part of the Madison County Amateur Radio Club, or the Union County Amateur Radio Club. These are great clubs with amazing skill, experience and resources to tap into. It would be fun to see how many contacts we could make across our clubs – and hopefully make some new friends along the way. This might be structured like a contest, with points and awards for contacts across various bands/modes. Maybe we could issue a “Worked in the MUD” award (Madison, Union, Delaware) for the most cross-club contacts? If you have any suggestions for this event, let me know. It should be a great year. I hope you are looking forward to it too. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

The club station open to any dues-paid member is one benefit! Operate in the station, or access over the Internet and operate from your own home! Participate in Field Day and other contests. Join learning events. Get advice and answers to your questions from those who’ve got the right answers. Most important, join the fellowship! Our dues haven’t changed in years. You can easily pay on our PayPal page http://www.k8es.org/pay%20my%2 0dues.htm or contact our treasurer Larry AC8YE at any activity.

Lots of things to do!

DELARA members are bacck in the swing! Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of activities in which many of our members have participated! Over the summer in addition to Field Day (always a big draw) the Boot Camp brought a large number out for a fun day. Ironman fielded 29 ham operators from three counties to help keep that event running. The latest adventures have included a large turnout for the Ohio QSO Party, putting the ARC stations back on the air. And in mid- September came the All Horse Parade, complete with Clydesdales. And of course the nightly radio nets, the digital group, and ARES training are there to keep us interacting. We send big thanks out to all who take their time and effort to have fun and serve our community! DELARA is an active club- and if you’re a newer member to the hobby, these activities are a great way to make some serious friendships! That has always been the best part of DELARA - friendships built around a common interest!
