DELARA
Serving the public
We have had our first real severe
weather net now (and at this
writing it’s entirely possible to have
number 2!)
I am biased, because the weather
net was what got me interested in a
ham radio license… and the interest
has held all these years. I would
guess the majority of hams have a
higher-than-normal interest and
experience with weather. So it
follows that applying ham radio to
the weather all the while
significantly providing protection to
our area is a pretty cool aspect of
our radio sport.
In order to make this a dependable
service, there is one key ingredient:
we all have to be ready to jump in
when needed. Some periods it
seems like every night sees severe
weather. But taken against the
entire year, it’s really not that
frequent. But when it threatens we
owe it to our community to
participate!
So far we’re doing great, and I
sincerely thank you for being a part!
Yes, the best net is a ‘quiet’ net but
that’s not because no one is out
there, it’s because there are many
of us and we can watch that there
is no threat. When the threat
appears, we’ll be there!
