Build an Antenna!

(Editor’s note: Bob has spearheaded a plan to hold an “Antenna Day” for DELARA. Members will have purchased an end-fed antenna kit, and the building will commence! Kudo’s to Bob for continually introducing new ideas to the club!) The DELARA Antenna Day will be held March 26 at the ARC. For example- here’s the plan: Steps in assembling the antenna, after the drilling is done. 1. Install all the nuts and bolts into the box. KE8NSL 2. Wind the UNUN coil. KD8KWH 3. Install the UNUN coil in the box and solder its connections. Test with 2500 ohm resistor. KD8KWH 4. Attach the longer antenna wire to the box. AF8RJ 5. Wind the loading coil and attach it to both antenna wires. AF8RJ 6. Attach the loading coil to the end insulator using the short wire and the 80 meter adjustment clamps. See diagram. W8ERD 7. Attach the 40 meter adjustment clamps to the long wire near the other end of the loading coil. See diagrams. Tighten all clamps only finger tight. W8ERD 8. Take the antenna outside to be tested. OWNER 9. Attach the coax and raise the unun end up the tower. N8HKO 10. Hold the other end up near the fence. OWNER 11. Adjust the lengths as indicated by the SWR measurement. K8DL, K8SWH,W8ERD 12. Take the antenna off the tower. N8HKO 13. Final tighten the clamps. owner 14. You are done! This is going to be a great time, and participants will have their own 40-meter end-fed, an antenna that works well.
