The Prez’s Shack

Log Jammed... Thanks to everyone who participated in the first annual (hopefully) MUD QSO Party. This '6m and up' contact event was held on Saturday March 12th with participation from the Madison, Union and Delaware amateur radio clubs. The goal was to meet members of the neighboring clubs, program in their repeaters to your radio, and also test your home stations simplex coverage area using various bands and modes. We even had the 3 club stations activated to work the event. Now comes the hard part - collecting the scoring all the logs! Yours truly will be very busy in the coming week transcribing paper logs and loading everything into a scoring database. By the end of March we will announce which club will hold the MUD Trophy for 2022 (see picture). There will also be certificates for 1) participation - working 3 or more contacts in each county, 2) the individual with the highest point score in each club and 3) a 'Master Operator' award for the individual working the most bands and modes in each club. Scores and awards will be independently audited by the MUD Police, Joe K8MP. We had a lot of help putting this event together. I want to thank Tony NO8F from MCARC, along with Ed KE8ANU and Joe K8JWL from UCARC for their support. Special thanks to our own Will N8HDM. Will is also a member of MCARC and stays engaged with all three clubs. He put a lot of thought into the operating rules, and helped us avoid a number of pitfalls in our first event. Thanks Will. Other business... We now have a new date for our "Antenna Party". This is an antenna kit build event for an End Fed Half Wave on 80m-10m. The big day is March 26th. Bob W8ERD is working hard to plan this event. If you haven't RSVP'd with Bob, please contact him right away. We have a large turnout expected. I look forward to fun day of kit building. Lastly, our remote station is now fully operational - including remote control of the beam rotator. We will discuss that at this month's DELARA club meeting. Thanks to Gary KE8O, George WD8KNC, John W8NX for all their work on the rotator controller. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

DELARA

Hang on - spring’s coming! Are you, as I, pretty fed up with Ohio’s not being able to decide whether it’s winter or spring? Got some great new antenna ideas (or repairs)? Seems like there’s always something to do. I have a 160-meter delta loop of which one support has fallen not once but twice this year alone. It currently is laying in the yard, covered with a dusting of snow. I have doubled-down and when weather permits, it will be back up with the strength of an office building. The Radnor winds won’t get me a third time. Of course, that’s what I thought the second time. Well, one more time we’ll stand up the military mast and see what new ground anchors will do for staying in the soggy yard. Full report later. -N8BHL

DELARAActive

Lots of things to do!

DELARA members are bacck in the swing! Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of activities in which many of our members have participated! Over the summer in addition to Field Day (always a big draw) the Boot Camp brought a large number out for a fun day. Ironman fielded 29 ham operators from three counties to help keep that event running. The latest adventures have included a large turnout for the Ohio QSO Party, putting the ARC stations back on the air. And in mid- September came the All Horse Parade, complete with Clydesdales. And of course the nightly radio nets, the digital group, and ARES training are there to keep us interacting. We send big thanks out to all who take their time and effort to have fun and serve our community! DELARA is an active club- and if you’re a newer member to the hobby, these activities are a great way to make some serious friendships! That has always been the best part of DELARA - friendships built around a common interest!
