NEWSLETTER DEADLINE CLOSER THAN YOU THINK!!!
If you think time is flying by fast here is a good example. Just about four months from now is deadline for the
Ohio Section 2022 Newsletter Contest!!!
Midnight June 30th is the deadline to have your club’s newsletter entered in this year’s event. Remember you’ll
need to send two copies…from different months…to be officially entered. Make sure your entry includes a link
to your club’s website and/or a direct link right to the newsletter.
We suggest a BIG BUTTON right on the front page so newsletters are easily accessible.
Judging this year is again all electronic and quicker the judges can find the newsletters the quicker we can
determine the winners. Judging starts right after the July 4th holiday and the winners will be announced in early
August.
THE HEADLINE SAYS IT ALL
The folks working on this year’s HAMVENTION have a good reminder….your SPELL CHECK IS NOT
ALWAYS RIGHT!
Webmaster et al,
I have noticed in locations on the Ohio ARES website, as well as newsletters, that there is a misspelling In the
Fairgrounds for Dayton Hamvention location. It is the Greene County Fairgrounds in Xenia, OH. Greene is
with an "e."
I was hoping you could make this correction for the future. It both looks better professionally, as well as deters
confusion.
Thank you for your time.
05/20-22/2022 - Dayton Hamvention
Location: Greene County Fairgrounds - Xenia, OH
Sponsor: Dayton Amateur Radio Association
Website: https://hamvention.org
You can add Greene County to your spell check but you will always need to check manually just in case. Copy
editing is an art and sometimes computers aren’t the answer.
So far, the 2022 Hamvention is a Go…hope to see you there!
A BOY SCOUT SAYS THANKS!
A proud Boy Scout mother and her son sent us a THANK YOU note last week. Take a minute to soak in the
note below and you’ll see just how important Amateur Radio is to just about everyone!
“My son Noah and I just wanted to reach out since you've been such a wonderful help with his "Electronics"
merit badge for Boy Scouts! Your page, http://arrl-ohio.org/club_link/links.html gave him some really great
information and sites to learn from! He's been scouting from home again so it's always such a blessing to be
able to find such great sites to help out with his badges! Thank you so much!!
To take our thanks one step further, Noah had the awesome idea of passing along other resource to you he
came across while looking for information. It's https://murfelectricbikes.com/pages/electricity-glossary-andterms
and it's an electricity glossary. He felt that it could make an excellent addition to your page and could
possibly help others.
I'd absolutely love to show Noah that his suggestion was up and running to help others if you've decided it was
a fitting addition! I believe he would be so excited and proud to know he's made a positive contribution...plus
I'm sure he would be thrilled to show his troop during their next video call!
Please let us know what you think if you have the chance!
Thanks so much again and all the best.”
Noah and Selena McCoy
We need to help this young man get licensed and we are working on his suggestion! It’s great to see a young
man take an interest in electronics and electricity as we all did when we were “testing the ham radio waters.”
Congratulations Noah!
SPRING BRINGS SEVERE WEATHER
April showers may bring May flowers but March brings the start of the severe weather season.
The National Weather Service is working on presenting virtual Spotter Training sessions…and their website has
all of the information….National Weather Service. You can search for the locations of Spotter Training in your
area.
Also, your local Emergency Management Agency will be a great resource and training. The SKYWARN and
WEATHER WATCH organizations are good sources for additional weather related training and currently
gearing up for weekly weather nets. Working with them is a great way for you to put your Amateur Radio skills
to the test and help the NWS as well.
The statewide Tornado Safety Drill for 2022 is Mach 23rd and 9:50 AM. More info can be found here:
