DELARANEWS
DELARA NEWS is the monthly publication of the Delaware Amateur Radio Association, Delaware OH. October 2022 VOL 41 Number 10

Welcome

This is the official newsletter of a great ham radio club! Our DELARA family appreciates what you’re doing with the hobby! Why not take a few minutes and write out what interests you in our hobby! We have room for your article always! Send it to Stan [at] standi.com by the end of the month.

The Prez’s Shack

The Only Constant is Change...

In this month's newsletter, you will read about the remodeling of the American Red Cross building and the changes that will mean for DELARA. An optimist would say... 'This is great for our radio room! We have an opportunity for more space, reduced electrical noise and an opportunity to clean up our cable runs.' A pessimist would say 'What a disaster! We are losing our monthly meeting and VE testing space!' While both views are true, I think it is important to remember that we haven't always had meetings at the ARC. We are working to secure a regular meeting space, and are looking in to several options. We have a contingent location for the November meeting, but will make a formal location announcement on that shortly. I'm hopeful that we will find an ongoing facility that is equally convenient for most club members. So I would rather focus on the potential to improve the radio room. We can work on reducing RFI, make it more suitable for one-on-one operations training for new hams, emphasize the remote capabilities for all members, and enjoy the additional space (oh, and better HVAC) for our operating events. As I mentioned above, these types of changes are not new to our club. Our meetings have been held at a number of locations over the years, and we didn't always enjoy a dedicated radio room. The one thing we have always enjoyed is the camaraderie we share as members of the club. 73 - Mike W8MDC DELARA President President@K8es.org

DELARA

IMPORTANT! This is a special edition of DELARA News, because it details major changes in how the club itself will function in the future. Most critical is the meeting location and how we conduct our activities. The changes were brought about after the ‘blood’ section of Red Cross took over control of the Delaware Chapter building. We’ll detail as much as we know here, and discuss this further at our regular meeting, to be held at the ARC. It may be the last meeting we are able to hold there. Our November meeting is being arranged by Prez Mike; we do have the commitment to use Genoa Township facilities but we are looking at locations within Delaware proper since that appears to be more convenient. We’ll let you know! We have all the details in the “red Cross’ section of this newsletter.
A VERY IMPORTANT EDITION! Read the ARC page!

DELARAActive

Lots of things to do!

DELARA members are bacck in the swing! Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of activities in which many of our members have participated! Over the summer in addition to Field Day (always a big draw) the Boot Camp brought a large number out for a fun day. Ironman fielded 29 ham operators from three counties to help keep that event running. The latest adventures have included a large turnout for the Ohio QSO Party, putting the ARC stations back on the air. And in mid- September came the All Horse Parade, complete with Clydesdales. And of course the nightly radio nets, the digital group, and ARES training are there to keep us interacting. We send big thanks out to all who take their time and effort to have fun and serve our community! DELARA is an active club- and if you’re a newer member to the hobby, these activities are a great way to make some serious friendships! That has always been the best part of DELARA - friendships built around a common interest!
